Our ram extruder model number directly indicates the maximum outside diameter (OD) of the product the machine can produce, in millimeters. This makes model selection straightforward: match your target product diameter to the model range.
Model Minimum Product OD Maximum Product OD Typical Applications
150 model Small diameters Ø150 mm Small-diameter PTFE rods, tubes
250 model Ø150 mm Ø250 mm Medium rods and billets
400 model Ø250 mm Ø400 mm Large-diameter rods and billets
●Choose the model whose maximum OD covers your largest product. The machine produces anything from small diameters up to its rated maximum.
●The 250 and 400 models are designed for the upper ranges shown above. If your products concentrate below Ø150 mm, the 150 model is the most economical choice.
●For product portfolios that span multiple ranges, contact us with your full size list — we will recommend the most cost-effective configuration.
Both orientations extrude PTFE by ram pressing, but they serve different diameter ranges.
2.1 Why small-diameter products suit vertical extruders
In a vertical machine, the compact mold length provides excellent density control for small cross-sections, and the vertical ram stroke is well suited to small-diameter rods and tubes.
2.2 Why large-diameter products require a horizontal extruder
Two physical constraints make large diameters impractical in vertical orientation:
1.Mold length determines density. Large-diameter products require a proportionally longer mold to achieve uniform density through compaction. This mold length cannot be accommodated in a vertical frame.
2.Product gravity. As the billet diameter grows, the weight of the product column in a vertical press creates uneven stress and deformation risk. Horizontal extrusion eliminates this gravity effect.
Rule of thumb: small diameters → vertical; large diameters → horizontal. Our sales engineers will confirm the correct orientation based on your product drawings.
All capacity figures quoted by Prestige are daily output values, calculated under deliberately conservative conditions:
●The rated output assumes product quality remains at the guaranteed level throughout the shift — not a theoretical maximum run at reduced quality.
●In other words, our numbers are what you can realistically plan production around, not best-case marketing figures.
When comparing quotes from different suppliers, always confirm whether quoted capacity is daily or hourly, and whether it assumes full quality compliance. Our engineers can provide product-specific output estimates given your diameter, wall thickness, and material formulation.
●Custom frame height. The frame height of vertical extruders can be custom-manufactured to fit your workshop ceiling height. Provide your plant dimensions at order stage and we will adapt the machine accordingly.
●Footprint including maintenance access. A space of 2 m × 2 m is sufficient for the machine plus its operating and maintenance aisle. This compact footprint allows most existing workshops to host a production line without civil works.
Material selection directly determines extrusion stability and finished-product quality. The requirements below apply to all Prestige ram extruder models.
5.1 Pre-sintered PTFE is required
PTFE ram extrusion must use pre-sintered PTFE resin. Pre-sintering the resin before molding is a mandatory process step for stable extrusion.
5.2 Recycled material: usable, with a quality trade-off
Recycled (reprocessed) PTFE can be used. However, products made from recycled material do not reach the quality level of products made from virgin material — expect reduced mechanical and electrical performance. For critical applications (medical, semiconductor, aerospace), virgin material is recommended.
5.3 Fillers: possible, but dosage is critical
Fillers (e.g., glass fiber, carbon, graphite, bronze) can be blended into the compound to modify product properties. However, filler formulation must be validated before production:
Caution: an excessively high filler ratio will cause the finished product to crack. Validate the filler formulation with our process engineers before starting production.
The following real-world scenarios illustrate how to apply the rules in this guide.
Q1: I need Ø200 mm PTFE rods. Which model?
The 250 model (range Ø150–250 mm), in horizontal orientation given the large diameter.
Q2: I make Ø60 mm rods in a workshop with a 3 m ceiling. Any issue?
No. The 150 model in vertical orientation suits Ø60 mm, and frame height is customized to your 3 m ceiling. A 2 m × 2 m area is enough.
Q3: Can I run 30% recycled material to cut costs?
Yes, recycled PTFE can be blended. Discuss the ratio with our engineers — and note filler ratios must also stay within validated limits to avoid cracking.
